(More customer reviews)I do not usually get involved in writing reviews, but in this particular case there are no reviews at all except one that leaves a much worse impression about this product than it deserves.
May be resistive technology is not as good as capacitive but it works great for me. Off course, due to smaller size it is harder sometimes to point to small items on screen, but I don't think even capacitive will help when it comes to a finger aiming at specific small areas on screen.
A fixes resolution is listed in the specs, so no surprises here. For now, I think it is a limitation of the technology and also power consumption restriction imposed by USB connection. If that may become a problem for you then probably you should think about before you buy, not afterward.
First reviewer did not disclose why the touchscreen is not worth the extra cost since both "problems" mentioned (resistive vs capacitive and fixed 800x480 resolution) are not related to the touchscreen function.
Now I'll try to describe my experience with this device.
Screen is bright, crisp and backlight is consistent with no bleeding of any kind.
A 10ft long single connector USB cable was enough to keep the device powered on all the time. I have it working in combination with fit-PC2 (a really small nettop that uses 5 - 8 watt). This is probably the "greenest" solution for computing along with some netbooks.
Installation of the video driver is simple as inserting the provided CD, waitfor popup menu and click install. Just take into account that you will not see anything on screen until the driver is installed and possibly after a system reboot. It is also useful to mention that if you primary screen desktop background is black or dark, you may think that the monitor does not work. To be sure just try to move the mouse cursor to left or right off your primary desktop screen to see if it will appear on iMo. You can also drag and move a window same way rather trying to detect a small mouse cursor. Don't forget the window has to be not maximized in order to be able to move it to another screen.
There are also some specifics related to touchscreen driver setup that might be confusing. After installation it is necessary to go into calibration utility, enable multimonitor feature and click on second small monitor image to redirect the touchscreen output to iMo.
Another small quirk is the 4-point calibration process. When a red calibration circle is flashing/blinking in a corner of the screen, it is necessary not just to touch it as I was thinking at first, but to hold your finger on as long as it is necessary for the software to detect it and to show a blue circle and OK message on screen. Then the next red circle will come up until all 4 corners of the screen will be calibrated. Of course, if you read the manual first, there should be no problem, but because it is not as intuitive as I feel it needs to be, I consider it worthwhile to mention it.
Now about the price. I don't really agree that it is too expensive only because you could buy a 22" monitor for the money ($179 listed on Mimo website). If you have a good purpose for a small monitor then its greatly reduced power consumption will make it the cheapest solution in a long run. Besides that you may buy a used one for less money after all. I personally purchased a practically new in box and it works great. It is your choice, just make sure you buy from a trusted source.
I hope I could be of any help to someone who's looking for more information about iMo 7" touchscreen monitor and to avoid frustration when dealing with installation problems.
